Safe use of wire rope pressing

As an important working part of lifting machinery and a commonly used lifting tool, wire rope pressing is widely used in lifting operations.

1. Wire rope pressing should be used according to the factory's technical data. When technical data are not available, a single wire breaking tensile test should be carried out.

2. Wire rope suppression should be selected based on its mechanical properties and should have a certain safety factor. The diameter of the wire rope and supporting pulleys shall not be less than the specified data.

3. Wire rope pressing should be immersed in oil regularly.

4. When using rope clamps to fix the wire rope head, the rope clamps should be located on the main force-bearing side of the wire rope and should not be set crosswise; the distance between rope clamps should not be less than 6 times the diameter of the wire rope, and the number of rope clamps should meet the requirements.

5. The insertion length of the inserted wire rope suppression or sleeve should not be less than 15 times the diameter of the wire rope, and should not be less than 300mm. Freshly installed slings shall be sampled and tested at 125% of the allowable load.

6. The wire rope passing through the pulley and drum must not have joints. The ratio of the groove bottom or diameter of the pulley drum to the diameter of the wire rope should meet the following requirements: when driving the hoist, the mechanical transmission of the pulley should not be less than 11, and the manual transmission should not be less than 10.

7. Before using new wire rope for pressing, please use the correct method to unfold. Place the wire rope drum on the rotating shaft, and then pull one end of the wire rope to slowly rotate the drum and straighten all the rope loops. The wire rope drums must not be stacked vertically on the ground, and then the wire rope is stretched horizontally so that the torsional force of the wire rope cannot be fully released, causing the wire rope to break and twist, causing serious damage. When in use, the crane pulleys can wrap and spin, preventing them from functioning properly.

8. Wire rope pressing should be stored in a well-ventilated, moisture-free room and should be placed on a shelf or hung.

9. The wire rope must not come into contact with welding wire or other wires, otherwise it will easily burn the wire rope and cause danger.

10. It is strictly prohibited to use braided extension wire ropes in the hoisting and luffing mechanisms of the crane.

11. If the wire rope is pressed under any of the following conditions, it should be scrapped.

(1) The wire rope is worn or corroded by more than 40% of the original diameter, or the wire rope is severely annealed or damaged by local arc burning.

(2) The rope core is damaged or the rope strands are squeezed.

(3) Severe deformation or bending.

(4) The wire rope is flat and deformed, with serious surface burrs.

(5) The number of broken wires in the wire rope is small, but the number of broken wires increases rapidly.

12. Scrapped steel wire ropes should be cut off and placed in designated locations, and should not be discarded at will to avoid accidents caused by misuse.

13. The running wire rope must not rub with other objects. Friction can cause damage, breakage or overloading of the wire rope.

14. When the wire ropes are connected by splicing, the number of wire ropes with a diameter less than 15mm should be no less than 4; the diameter of the wire ropes less than 15-28mm should not be less than 5; the diameter of the wire ropes less than 28-60mm should not be less than 6. The strength of the steel wire rope that uses the braiding method to fix the rope end is 75%-90% of the strength of the steel wire rope itself. It is important to consider the impact of this connection.
